To spread the word and educate on why GREEN is not only possible but the step in the right direction, we’ve put together some information for you to get an idea of what it means to be Green in the printing industry.
Traditionally, the printing industry has relied primarily on petroleum-based ink, which isn’t good for people or the environment. Petroleum-based inks contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs). As they dry, they give off poisonous gases that may contain dangerous substances like heavy metals or poisonous stabilizers. This adds to air pollution.
Avokado Design & Printing and our printing facilities work with inks that are vegetable-based, environmentally friendly, and have little to no mineral oil content. Most frequently, we use soy-based inks from the soybean crop. Soybeans require little energy in the growing and harvesting process. For example, the crops do not need to be irrigated, so they conserve water. Soy ink does not give off VOCs, and in fact, soybean plants remove greenhouse gases.
Avokado Design & Printing And printing facilities are getting better at using less ink, so we have less waste and use less energy.
